The Glenridge School office is open from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
School Day
School begins at 8:40 a.m. and is dismissed at 3:30 p.m. The first bell rings at 8:30 a.m. and the second bell at 8:40 a.m. Children should arrive at school as close to 8:30 a.m. as possible. Students are considered tardy if they arrive after 8:40 a.m.
It is important for students to arrive in the classroom before the second bell at 8:40 a.m. Aside from recording the attendance and taking the lunch count at that time, classroom teachers explain the daily plans, special instructions/information are given, notices from the office are announced throughout the building, etc. Understandably, if a student is not present to receive this daily information his/her school day will begin with added confusion.
In case of inclement weather, a green flag hangs on each entry door. If the green flag is up when children arrive at school, they may wait in the Oxford foyer until 8:30 a.m. (If it is raining and the green flag is not up, children may come in to the Oxford foyer)
Extreme icing, heavy snow, impassable streets, downed electrical wires and major curtailment of transportation and communication lines may justify the closing of school or a “snow schedule.” A “snow schedule” means that school will open one hour later than usual and close at the regular time.
Information regarding school closings or schedule changes due to extreme weather will be posted on the front page of the District and school websites as soon as a decision is made. Typically, a decision to close school or open on a snow schedule is not made until 5 a.m. on the morning in question.
On snow schedule days, all before-school meetings, programs, sports practices and activities are canceled, including Kid Zone. All after-school meetings, programs and activities will proceed as scheduled unless additional inclement weather causes the District to cancel after school and evening activities/programs at some point during the day.
